It’s summer in the northern hemisphere, and that means people get out of the house and fill their days with a multitude of activities. Picnics and cookouts, parties, swimming, road trips, boat trips, family reunions, and on and on.

Who could ever feel lonely with all that’s going on, right?

But even in the midst of crowds, of friends and family, we are quite alone within our own minds.

Like building a friendship over time with another person, remember to build the friendship with yourself. It’s an ongoing process, not a one-time task.

Who Are You Supposed To Be?

Even though I don’t have a television or subscribe to cable or any other entertainment site, I do occasionally watch movies from my DVD or digital collection.

I get in a zone when I watch a movie. I can block out the world around me. I pay particular attention to every nuance, background scene, clothing, body language, sets, and, of course, the words of the characters.

I came across an article by Deepak Chopra this morning about poll results on the topic of happiness.

What’s unfortunate about the results, particularly the “rise and fall of events,” is that external events seem to be the cause of people’s level of happiness.
